Stephen Ministry
This ministry is a complete system of training and organizing people for caring ministry in and around the congregation. It enables us to grow as a warm, loving community where people are cherished and cared for in the name of Jesus Christ. Stephen Ministry at Gethsemane was reactivated in 2002. The fifth class of Stephen Ministers was commissioned in 2007.
Stephen ministry is based on the Biblical premise that all Christians are ministers. The responsibility for passing on God’s love is for all Christians in the Gethsemane body of Christ, not just a chosen few. God has given us all gifts for ministry and called us to use them to care for his people.
Who is a Stephen Minister?
A child of God who walks beside a hurting person; a caring Christian friend and confidant who really listens; a person who has received 50 hours of intensive training in how to provide Christian care.
Who needs a Stephen Minister?
A Stephen Minister can help people dealing with death or serious loss, separation or divorce, hospitalization, terminal illness, family frustrations and challenges, moving, financial setbacks, faith issues, teen and youth concerns, pregnancy or adoption, or the disabled and their families. At times this can include any one of us.
