Earning Tuition Dollars through the Xcel Energy Volunteer Program

The Xcel Program is a way for parents or other friends and family members to earn money toward tuition.

How Does the Program Work?

Gethsemane reserves a concession stand at the Xcel Energy Center during all Minnesota Wild hockey games and during as many other events as possible. Parents volunteer to work at the stand as a team (usually 6 or 9), with a team leader and an assistant lead. After the event, the Xcel Energy Center makes a scholarship donation, which is applied directly toward student tuition (preschool or K-8), school fees, or to fulfill a family’s church giving.

How to Get Started in the Program

A couple of steps need to take place before you can begin working with a team:

  1. Every worker must be trained by the Xcel Energy Center.
  2.  Every new worker must let the church office know where their funds will be applied.
  3.  Contact the school office to begin working with this program. You will be sent email notifications of upcoming events on a monthly calendar.
  4.  Friends and family members may work for you or alongside you. If they have already worked at the Xcel, they may not need to attend additional training.

How Much Money Will We Earn?

Each worker earns $56 per volunteer shift at a Minnesota Wild game and $46 at all other events.

What is the time commitment?

Approximately 5-6 hours for a Wild game. Other events are similar, but can vary in length.

Is there an age requirement for volunteers?

Yes. Everyone must be at least 18 years old.
